WOOD

In the wood, there are different varieties which we can use based on the weather conditions, and customer requirements. Our company make the product made up of wood material like,

  • High pressure laminate: - high pressure laminate is also called ‘Multiply’, this material is made by gluing layers of wood sheet one over another. This material is the strongest and most expensive on this list. The number of layers placed on the multiply is ‘11’ and ‘17’, higher the number of wooden sheets more the strength and expensive the material. This material is mostly used for tabletops, sides of the credenzas which are exposed and visible to look clean and add attention to the product or any other heavy duty work surfaces.

  • Medium density fiber: - this material is a good quality material though it is not the toughest material. Medium density fiber is also called as an ‘engineered wood’ (composite material) made of small wood pieces (softwood and hardwood), sticking resin and wax. This material came into limelight in the early 1980’s as an alternative to plywood and particle board. This material is the most considered material because of its light weightiness, affordable and much cheaper than real wood. This material has high strength and is hard to crack but can paint clean at ease, the best part about this material is that it looks almost like wood. This material has some drawbacks too like, when exposed to moisture this material will display visible cracks and create more dust while cutting.

  • Particle board: - Particle board is the lightest and the cheapest wood material on the list. This material is made of wood chips and resin. This material is used to replace plywood, where the budget is more important than the quality and reliability. This material can look appealing by spray painting or by adding a thin layer of wood sheet. This material is again divided into 2 types.

    • High density, this material has more strength than low density and is used for shielding by placing a layer of water repellent.

    • Low density has low density and is used for covering purposes like, back of the credenza where the back is against the wall and not visible.

This material does perform badly when subjected to moisture, they tend to expand as they absorb the moisture, and the resin loosens the stickiness.

  • Melamine, it is a type of chemical compound material placed on the above said wood. This material comes in many colors and sizes. This material is scratch resistant, dust and heat resistant. As these materials are chemically manufactured, it is much cheaper than the particle board too. Because of good resistant properties, this material is used for covering the wood and the places where wood cannot be used. Using this material, we mostly make tabletop surfaces which are scratch and dust resistant, drawer boxes, as they are not very visible unless opened, and so on.

All these above-said materials are special in their own respective ways and operations, but they are the core materials, are they are small pieces of wood. So, to make this material look like a solid wood piece we add or glue another layer of very thin wood sheet called ‘laminate and veneer.’ These thin sheets are the actual wood sheets cut in long rolls with the pattern and touch of wood.

  • Laminate is like mdf or medium density fiber. It is compressed to a thickness of 6-12 mm. Almost all wood products are covered by laminates. The laminate comes in various patterns and multiple color options which represents the actual properties of that wood. Wilsonart and Formica are two leading manufacturers of laminate. Laminates are mostly applied on the particle board and medium density fiber as multiply looks better with exposed edges.

  • Veneer, it is also made of wood stripped to rolls. This material is much higher graded and of superior quality. One can find the difference between the laminate and veneer after being glued to the panel as laminate will have a black edge or end line and is visible on the sides of the panel whereas, after applying veneer it is not visible. Popular veneer rolls used are,

    • White oak veneer

    • Maple veneer

    • Walnut veneer

    • Cherry veneer, and so on.

For the veneer to look glossy and smooth, a layer of epoxy resin is added depending on the level of smoothness the customer wanted. The smoothness level ranges from 10% considered as slightly smooth to 100% being the smoothest on the scale.

  • The last finish which is applied on the core material and prevents is from cracking and being affected by any damage is the ‘Cabinet liner.’  This material is also called shelf liner, as the name suggests it is mostly used on cabinets inner side of storage units where scratches are common and moisture affect is frequent. This is the cheapest of all finishes and protects the core material from common wear and tear, this material is not wood and does not give out any eminence of wood.
